Best AI Search Agencies for Law Firms (2026)

The shortlist below records what each agency says about itself, because no independent comparison of law-firm outcomes is published.

TL;DR: No independent ranking of AI search agencies for law firms is published, so the best choice for generative engine optimization (GEO) for law firms is the agency that shows its prompts, price and contract before you sign. Clio, which sells legal software, defines GEO for law firms as structuring a firm's online presence so AI systems are more likely to surface it in generated answers. In its 7 Oct 2026 report, First Page Sage, which sells GEO itself, puts the median retainer for this work at $6,850 a month. No agency can guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend a law firm. A law firm should start with its own practice-area and city pages, then judge any agency on tracked prompts and enquiries.

Agencies doing AI search work for law firms, and what each one claims

The shortlist below records what each agency says about itself, because no independent comparison of law-firm outcomes is published. SEO Discovery's list of ten agencies ranks SEO Discovery first, so it helps a firm find names such as Genevate, Focus Digital and Grow Law Marketing, but it is not evidence of who performs best. Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the label some agencies use for the same work. Clio says the distinction rarely matters in practice, although some agencies sell the labels separately.

Disclosure: Strategi publishes this page and appears in this table. Strategi is listed for its open pricing and terms, and no independent source rates it above any other agency. Service in India is unconfirmed for every agency here except Strategi, so an Indian firm should ask before anything else. Firms looking beyond legal specialists can use Strategi's comparison of AI SEO agencies.

What does it cost a law firm each month?

Fewer than half of the agencies in Strategi's pricing survey publish a GEO price, so a firm should expect a private quote from most of them. The same survey records First Page Sage's 7 Oct 2026 report: a median GEO and AEO retainer of $6,850 a month, up 66% since the first quarter of 2024, drawn from 1,146 quotes across 214 agencies. First Page Sage sells GEO itself, so read that median as a seller's benchmark.

No published figure gives a law-firm-specific market rate, in India or elsewhere. SEO Discovery's advertised $250 a month is one vendor's entry price with its contents unstated, and it sits below both sub-$1,000 services in the survey. The prices below come from general providers rather than legal specialists, and private quotes differ.

RoutePublished price, checked 24 Oct 2026TermWhat the money buys
Tracking toolOtterly.AI $29 a month for 15 prompts; Peec AI $95 to $495 a monthSubscriptionTracking only, with no writing, fixes or earned mentions
Entry done-for-youStrategi Starter $499; Thrive Agency from $500Month to monthOngoing delivery at the lowest end of the published agency market

In-house hireFirst Page Sage's estimate of $12,169 a month fully loadedEmploymentOne GEO specialist

Strategi publishes its monthly plans, so a firm can compare them with any quote it receives. The contract term deserves as much attention as the monthly figure, because $3,000 for six months commits $18,000 before results can be judged. Indian firms have a further reason for caution: Mordor Intelligence lists downward fee pressure from price-sensitive clients as a restraint, with an approximate -1.1% impact on its CAGR forecast for India's legal services market. That forecast does not measure marketing budgets, but a firm under fee pressure gains from a contract it can leave.

GEO for law firms extends SEO rather than replacing it

Clio's March 2026 guide says traditional search engines still drive most of the traffic businesses rely on, which argues against treating GEO as a replacement for search visibility. Rankings.io calls GEO an extension of law firm SEO, and ThatWare says GEO does not replace legal SEO. Both agencies sell GEO, which makes the concession more useful. Strategi's position goes further: SEO, AEO and GEO are one job, and selling them separately is a pricing strategy. A law firm therefore needs one budget and one set of accountable work, not two invoices.

AI summaries are already part of how many people search. Bain & Company, as cited by Lexicon, reported that about 80% of search users rely on AI summaries for at least 40% of their searches, a figure that is neither legal-specific nor Indian. Vendor estimates for AI Overviews on legal searches conflict and name no data source, so no dependable legal figure is published.

How do AI assistants pick which firms to recommend for a practice area and city?

No published test shows which signals make an AI assistant choose one law firm over another. Vendor checklists name reviews, directories, schema and topical depth, but they offer no causal evidence, so treat them as working hypotheses. Strategi describes the process as two gates: retrieval, meaning the engine can reach, fetch and render a page, and selection, meaning the retrieved page matches the engine's own background searches closely enough to be cited. Strategi also reports that third-party mentions track whether a brand gets named far more closely than domain authority does.

Take a hypothetical employment practice in Pune. A generic "employment law" page gives an engine little to quote, while a page answering "do I need a lawyer for this" for a founder facing a disputed termination gives it a specific situation, a city and a stated limit. Specificity is what separates quotable content from background. Engines also differ in what they show: Lexicon notes that ChatGPT does not always show sources, while Google AI Overviews display them prominently. Success on one engine therefore proves little about another.

What the India market figures can and cannot tell a firm

No published figure shows how many Indian clients use AI assistants to find a lawyer, and no India-specific GEO statistic exists for law firms. IMARC Group puts offline delivery at 72.3% of India's legal services market in 2025, but that figure measures service delivery, not client discovery. IMARC estimates the market at USD 29.24 billion in 2026, projected to reach USD 42.09 billion by 2034. Mordor Intelligence estimates USD 2.64 billion in 2026, reaching USD 3.52 billion by 2031, and the roughly elevenfold gap between the two proprietary models goes unexplained.

A legal AI search agency should show you its evidence before you sign

A 2026 NITI Aayog report describes legal services as relying on qualification systems, licensing frameworks, ethical standards and transparent regulatory practices. Marketing for a law firm therefore needs a compliance check that most sectors do not. For US firms, FirmPilot notes that content published for AI consumption is still attorney advertising subject to state bar rules. Before signing, ask for the following:

  • The exact prompts. SEO Discovery, which sells this work, says tracking differs between agencies and advises asking for the exact prompts monitored. Ask which practice areas, cities and engines those prompts cover, and how often they run. Practice Proof itself says AI answers shift, so a single reading proves little.

  • Results with a baseline. Rankings.io's 349% figure covers one selected client, and any figure like it needs a baseline, a timeframe and a prompt set before it can be compared. Ask whether a case result comes from a law firm in a comparable market. Measured evidence linking GEO to signed matters is not published, so treat every case study as self-reported.

  • Reporting that reaches enquiries. Clio frames AI search visibility in citations, share of voice and brand mentions, while FirmPilot lists prompt testing, citation checks and referral data. Those measures are useful, but impressions are not visits, and Strategi's stated view is that any such metric should connect to inquiries. A managing partner who trusts channels with direct return tracking is right to demand the same here.

  • A written refusal to guarantee. Practice Proof, which sells AEO services, acknowledges that a firm cannot dictate what an AI assistant says. Sorn.ai likewise says no marketer controls whether a response mentions a firm, cites a page or omits it. An agency promising a ChatGPT recommendation is promising something nobody controls.

  • Compliance sign-off. Ask who approves statements about reviews, case results and specialisms before they go live. The firm's own lawyer should hold that approval. Strategi's stated process publishes a page only after the client's approver signs off, and it uses only facts the client gave or approved.

  • Ownership and exit. Get ownership of the website, the domain and all content in writing, along with the notice period. Rankings.io says clients own everything it builds, and Strategi says the same applies after a client leaves. Any agency that will not put this in writing has answered the question.

Agency, tool or in-house: which suits a small firm?

A small firm should improve its own pages first, then buy done-for-you work if clients in its practice research with AI. An in-house hire is the wrong first step for most small firms. The in-house estimate in the table above reflects US-based costs. A firm can work through the decision in this order:

  1. Fix the firm's own pages. Write one strong page for each practice area and city the firm wants, with specific conditions, process and limits. Keep the firm's name, address, specialisms and credentials consistent everywhere they appear. This work helps in Google and AI answers alike, so it stays useful even if AI search brings few clients.

  2. Buy a tool only with someone to act on it. Tools report what happened, but they do not write, fix or earn mentions. A partner who will not read the data every week gains nothing from a tracking subscription. Run the prompts by hand for a month if the budget is tight.

  3. Hire an agency for a measured trial. Choose month-to-month terms where possible and agree in advance how long the trial runs and which prompts will judge it. Practice Proof says SEO and AEO compound slowly, so a firm that needs matters this quarter should keep its paid channels running. GEO alone should not carry that quarter's revenue target.

Not every firm should buy this. Strategi's best fit is a business whose buyers research with AI, and it says so early when a market is too small to return anything. A smaller firm can begin with the free AI visibility check, which gives a full check of the site, the 5 issues costing it most and its first 5 topics to publish, in about 30 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Who can get my law firm recommended by ChatGPT?
No agency can promise a ChatGPT recommendation for a law firm. Practice Proof, which sells this work, concedes that a firm cannot dictate what an AI assistant says. A credible agency improves the pages and outside mentions that assistants draw on, tracks named prompts, and reports the direction over several weeks.
How much does generative engine optimization cost for a law firm?
Generative engine optimization for a law firm has no established market rate. SEO Discovery advertises from $250 a month without stating what that tier includes. First Page Sage, which sells generative engine optimization itself, puts the median monthly retainer at $6,850 across 214 agencies in its 7 Oct 2026 report.
Does a law firm need separate budgets for SEO and GEO?
A law firm does not need separate budgets for SEO and GEO, in Strategi's view, because they are one job and selling them apart is a pricing strategy. Rankings.io also calls GEO an extension of law firm SEO. A firm quoted twice should ask which tasks differ between the invoices.
Are law firms paying attention to AI search yet?
Law firm adoption of AI search work has no reliable published figure, in India or elsewhere. Claims that early movers gain a lasting advantage have no primary data behind them. A managing partner should judge AI search on tracked enquiries, as with any other channel, and not on fear of falling behind.
Do ChatGPT and Google recommend the same law firms?
A law firm should track ChatGPT and Google separately, because success on one does not prove success on the other. Lexicon notes that ChatGPT does not always show sources, while Google AI Overviews display them prominently. A single prompt run proves little, because Practice Proof itself says AI answers shift.
How many Indian clients use AI to find a lawyer?
No published figure shows how many Indian clients use AI assistants to find a lawyer. IMARC Group's 72.3% offline share for 2025 measures how legal services are delivered, not how clients discover them. An Indian firm should test demand in its own practice area before committing to a long contract.
